I am no longer able to use multiple software keys in my Windows 7 machine concurrently. I run four CAD software programs (Cadence Orcad, Mentor PADS, Altera Quartus, Mentor Hyperlynx) that each require a unique USB security key ('dongle') to be plugged into the machine or else the software will not run.
HASP Key Device Driver - HINSTALL.EXE. Aladdin Knowledge Systems periodically updates their device driver installation software to accommodate new Windows operating systems and Service Packs. GTX recommends the following HASP device driver installation technique for Windows 2003, or for any situation of device driver installation difficulty.
For as long as I can remember, Windows XP, then Windows 7 has allowed me to have these four keys in the machine at once, and I can have the CAD software packages running at the same time in different windows. This is great.
My computer did an automatic update last night. Now, when I have more than one key plugged into the machine, none of my CAD programs operate. If I plug one of the keys in at a time, I can get programs to run singly. This is a pain, especially since Orcad doesn't run after a key has been hot-plugged without first running lmutils to manually stop and start its driver.
The software vendors tell me this is a Microsoft problem and that running multiple keys is not supported, and that it has been a problem since Windows 7 was released.
- Has anyone else seen this?
- Does anyone know what specific update caused this to stop working?
- Does anyone have a workaround that gets multiple keys running concurrently?
I will try installing the system from a backup. Haven't done one in quite a few months but it's the only thing I can think of.
Thanks !!!
