There's been a lot of buzz lately about the M-mount 7artisans 50/1.1 'Sonnar'-esque for $379 on Amazon.
Where else can you get a (potentially crappy) f1.1 full-frame short-flange lens for under $400? Wowsers.
Mine came in today and I thought I'd share some preliminary shots.
Yes, yes, it's about as bad as a brick wall :) but I think it's a fairly good approximation. Used a mirror and bubble level to establish collinearity with wall. Sony a7, exported from ARWs without any editing, to JPGs.
Just don't look at the right side of the image. After shooting these and examining in Lightroom I realized the box was about 1/4' (6.5mm) dented compared to the middle and left edges.

And at the expense of you having to be exposed to my mug :) .... selfies at minimum focussing distance. Used the live view magnifier plus focus bracketing and picking the sharpest one. I kind of missed focus on the iris and kept hitting the eyebrow (yeah, lame, I know) but it'll have to do for now.

Here's their instructions on how to calibrate the focus cam (!):

And the purported optical formula: http://u.cubeupload.com/biogon/opticalformula.jpg
That definitely doesn't look like a double gauss setup. I'd say it is vaguely Sonnar-esque (aka telephoto), especially with the rather small exit pupil.
As for me... I've been shooting for the last 25 years or so, from the Yashica-mat 124g and developing my own black and white (TX120 pulled 2/3 stop) and printing color on an old Bessa enlarger with filter packs, to a lovely Toyo-View 4x5 with a SuperAngulon 90/8, to, at the height of my arrogance and folly, an M9 (that was a disaster). Have since scaled back and am just enjoying the medium.
